About Moosik
Moosik is a free, open-source desktop player for people who want to keep their YouTube Music library and change how they listen on their computer.
The project
Moosik is an independent fork of Refryt, created by gridoe and contributors. Refryt supplies the core player and native interface. Moosik builds on that work with searchable listening history, editable queues, private playlists, and listening reports. AtotheY maintains the fork; its code is available under GPL-3.0-or-later in the official repository.
You can install a Mac disk image or the experimental Windows x64 installer. Source builds are optional. The download page lists the requirements for each release.
Your music account
Moosik connects to YouTube Music and is intended for YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium accounts. Google provides the catalog, account playlists, and streaming access. Moosik is independent of Google and YouTube.
Two places a play can be recorded
In Moosik: the local listening database records playback seen by this installation. Search those songs by title or artist, rate a track, or export a report. Plays from your phone or from before you installed the app do not get added to that local record. See a worked play-count example.
On YouTube: when you’re signed in, Settings → Playback → Queue and history → Save listening history controls whether Moosik reports supported plays to YouTube. The setting is on by default and applies when a new track starts. Turning it off leaves the local listening database available. The setting in version 0.1.26.
In the Mac release, Moosik keeps the reusable sign-in session in Keychain. The Windows release saves its session in the per-user configuration. The listening database is a separate file. Its exports can include local music file paths, dates and tags, so choose the export that matches what you want to share. How session storage works.
Private playlists and listening together
Choose Save privately to keep a playlist on this computer. Playing a streamed song still contacts YouTube. Edits made to a YouTube account playlist go to that account. Compare local files and streamed tracks.
Opening lyrics can look up the song title, artist and available album or duration with LRCLIB, including for local recordings. How lyrics are matched.
Discord Rich Presence is off by default. Enabling it shows your activity on Discord. Hosting Listen along also makes the current song and playback position available to anyone with the active invite. How Discord listening works.
