Make the Mac play key resume Moosik

Choose what happens when the media key would launch Apple Music, including after you quit Moosik.

You pause a song in Moosik, quit the app, and later press the play key expecting to pick up where you left off. If the Mac opens Apple Music instead, Moosik has an optional fallback for that particular moment.

Turn on the fallback

  1. Open Settings → System → Media keys in Moosik. Enable Use Moosik instead of Apple Music.
  2. If macOS asks for permission to run the helper in the background, use the Open System Settings button in Moosik and allow its background activity.
  3. Try it with a song already in your queue. Quit Moosik and press play while no other player is active. When the key would open Apple Music, the helper starts Moosik and resumes the saved song.

macOS still sends normal media controls to whichever player is active. If you are watching a video, play/pause may go there. The fallback responds to an Apple Music launch, and macOS does not distinguish pressing the key from deliberately clicking the Music icon. To open Apple Music yourself, turn the Moosik switch off first.

If you previously set up noTunes for this job, quit it and remove its Login Item before enabling Moosik’s bundled helper. Moosik’s media controls guide.
